Manually backing up and restoring your email messages

On this tutorial we will explain how to manually back up your email messages, step by step. For this process, you will need to use an email client, like MS Outlook.

Backing up your email (exporting)

  • After downloading all your messages to your local machine go to File > Open > Import/Export.

  • Select Export to a file and click on Next.

  • Select Outlook Data File (.pst), and select Next.

  • Select the folder to be backed up and click on Next.

  • On the next screen, choose the destination of the backed up file and hit Finish.

Restoring your backed up email (importing)

  • Now we will do the restoration of the previously backed up data to an existing email account. First you will need to configure this account as IMAP or MAPI(Exchange). Click here for a tutorial.
After the account is correctly configured on your mail client, go to Open & Export > Import/Export.

  • Select Import from another program or file, and then click Next.

  • Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and click Next.

  • Browse to the previously created .pst file and under Options, choose how you want to deal with emails and contacts, then hit Next.

  • Now you'll see all the folders backed up in the .pst file. Be sure to leave the Include subfolders option selected, choose the recover folder structure and hit Finish.

All done! Now you just have to wait for the messages to be synced with the Umbler server.
